My 10 Favorite Recipes from 2012

Since June of 2012 when I started Solid Gold Eats, I've posted just over 150 blogs containing recipes, food ramblings, book reviews and an assortment of other random things that have come to mind. I've picked ten of my favorite recipes to share with you as I wrap up 2012! 1) Third Helping Scalloped Potatoes - I've been making these way before SGE began, perfecting the recipe until I don't even reference it when making the dish anymore. Originally a combination of two recipes from Food Network Magazine, one being light and the other rich, this dish is a happy medium between the two. Chicken broth and milk give a fullness to the dish without adding gobs and gobs of cheese, while layering pads of butter and shredded cheese between the layers  satisfies your cheese cravings. Great as a side dish, or even by itself. 2) One-Skillet Meals for Lazy Sundays - I am a huge fan of meals that can be made in one dish. Less things to wash = happy Sara. Plus, I have no dishwasher, and a very small, blue kitchen, in case you forgot. Watch out on this one though, it can be super spicy, so use what feels good to you. I plan on incorporating more one-dish meals into SGE during 2013. 3) Baby Back Ribs with Grilled Corn Pasta Salad - Put a rack of ribs in front of me, and let's just say it disappears in minutes. I'll eat ribs whether they've been grilled or baked in the oven. Enjoy this light and crisp corn pasta salad as a great side dish with it. 4) Roasted Whole Chicken with Potatoes - Do NOT be intimidated by this recipe! Seriously. Not only will you be amazed at how easy it is to make this (maybe even easier than your normal weeknight meals) AND it's so freaking juicy and delicious, you'll be wishing you didn't waste time NOT making this dish. Emeril's Chili Dogs5) Beer-Braised Chicken with Sriracha - This was the first blog I wrote in which I received feedback from an unknown user (meaning not my mom) who made this dish and came back to comment on how much they enjoyed it! I was ecstatic, as I still am when people tell me they made my dishes. The sauce that comes out of this dish is so good, you'll be spooning it onto your chicken and maybe the mashed potatoes you make with it as a side. Trust me, I won't steer you wrong here. 6) John's Cream of Mushroom and Potato Soup - John gets full credit for this one, making it up off the top of his head as he rattled off ingredients for the grocery list that week. Smooth and creamy, full of flavor... one of the best potato soups I've ever had. 7) Emeril's Chili Dogs - Ever made a chili specific for chili dogs? Emeril has it down pat with this one. No recipe since it was part of the Serious Sandwich Cookalong, but you can find it in his book Kicked-Up Sandwiches. 8) Emeril's Chicken and Biscuits with Redeye Gravy - Save this for a weekend when you've got the time to make your own cheddar cheese and green onion biscuits, because you HAVE to make those. You can't skimp on this recipe. Again, find the full recipe in the Kicked-Up Sandwiches book. 9) One Pot Taco Mac - Again with the one dish thing, I know, but this goes beyond that. We eat a lot of Mexican food (mostly tacos) in this house, and this was a way to reinvent a familiar dish. Creamy, full of flavor, and completely delicious, this should be on your must-eat list for 2013. 10) Bacon, Beer and Brussel Sprouts - These three ingredients were made for each other. If the words "brussel sprouts" scare you, then you need to try them with things you love, whether it's bacon and beer or maple syrup and Sriracha. Brussel sprouts are a vessel for other flavors, and I can't wait to share my ideas of how to reinvent these little green cabbages in the new year.
